Liberty Assistance Dogs, Inc.

Specially Trained Assistance Dogs for People with Special Needs

Joyce Guthrie, Founder

Liberty Assistance Dogs, Inc. is an organization that provides assistance dogs to people with hearing impairments throughout the state of Missouri. The dogs we provide are "rescue dogs"--rescued from a line of abandonment and neglect. Our current goal is to provide a minimum of twenty dogs to deaf individuals per year.

The dogs are temperament-tested for suitability, trained in obedience, socialized and taught the special skills needed to provide assistance to those who cannot hear. Clients will be interviewed so that they may receive the best dogs for their special needs and then trained on our premises in the use of their service dog.

Service dogs fill an enormous need for deaf individuals. Without special technology, individuals who are hearing impaired must rely on others to let them know when the phone is ringing or someone is at the door. More important is hearing the sound of a baby crying or a fire alarm going off. L.A.D.I. service dogs are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, no matter where the individual is--traveling on business, at the grocery store, visiting, with family.

How to Apply:

Liberty Assistance Dogs, Inc. (L.A.D.I. ) is now accepting applications. Applications will be reviewed and clients will be interviewed by L.A.D.I. so that dogs can be carefully selected to meet individual needs. Once the client and assistance dog are matched, the client is trained at L.A.D.I.'s premises to use his/her dog.

Contact:

L.A.D.I. believes it is best to train each assistance dog to meet the specific needs of a hearing-impaired client. If you or someone you know is hearing-impaired and would like to enjoy the safety and independence an assistance dog can offer, or you would like to make a donation to L.A.D.I., please contact Joyce Guthrie at (573) 642-4237 (voice only).
